LATEST NEWS
📱 Instagram wants your full episodes
Instagram head Adam Mosseri announced Features this week, a new feature that will allow horizontal videos of up to 90 minutes in the app, designed for podcasts, interviews, specials and more. The feature started as a test in Brazil and the United States. It will allow each video to have up to 8 reels connected to the full episode, all inside the app. Although they're working on deals with some creators right now, the company hasn't announced whether there will be ad revenue for creators.
Why it matters: This could solve the dilemma of how clips lead people to the full episode, but it would be on yet another platform and without monetization. We'll talk about the pros and cons this Friday on Qué Está Pasando en el Podcasting (in Spanish).
Are you planning to post your full episodes on Instagram too?

🏴☠️ The hosting company that lets people copy your podcast and cash in
An investigation by Podnews' James Cridland found this week that podcast hosting company Spreaker makes it easy to copy any podcast and create a duplicate, all with a free account. Cridland copied his own podcast and within minutes had a copy with artwork, metadata and descriptions that updates itself every hour. In the test he also tried to monetize it with ads and was approved. Spreaker keeps 41% of the ad revenue. Spreaker says its rules prohibit uploading copied content, but it still hadn't taken action on the copied podcasts after the investigation was published.
Why it matters: Anyone who follows a copy by mistake doesn't count in your analytics. Although almost all the copied podcasts are big and famous, I recommend you do a search for your podcast to make sure it doesn't show up twice. And if it does, report it.

TIPS, TRICKS AND STRATEGIES
🗓️ Plan your year-end break now
In an interview with Eurowaves, the great Elsie Escobar of Captivate says podcasters are burning out faster than ever and invites us to plan our year-end breaks now and use that time to audit our podcasts:
Put it on the calendar: tell your audience when the last episode of the year will be and when you're coming back
Review the full year and define success: Elsie invites us to think about the episodes we made, how many there were, which ones the audience responded to, which ones we enjoyed and which ones not so much. If one month was hard, what can you plan two months ahead so it doesn't happen again next year?
Ask yourself what you don't want to learn again: write down the answer and see what you need to change so it doesn't happen again
Review your calls to action: at the beginning and end of the year, new listeners arrive, usually through past episodes.
We'll talk about and put some of these into practice on Qué Está Pasando en el Podcasting (in Spanish)
