🗽Podcast Movement NYC 2026 recap
"Podcast Week” as last week was called, began this past Monday with Sounds Profitable's Podcast Business Summit and wrapped up Friday with the last day of Podcast Movement, with the IAB Upfront in between. It was a week packed with news, findings and announcements and we were there Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. You can check here to see our photos.
This is a short recap of what happened during the week:
Acast's Podcast Pulse 2026 report was presented, where they found that 88% of podcast consumers consume audio and video, a 10-point increase over last year. 65% of consumers start an episode in one format and finish it in another. According to Acast CEO Greg Glenday “the format argument is over”.
During the Podcast Business Summit, representatives from the podcast advertising agencies Oxford Road, ADOPTER Media and Right Side Up announced that “Engaged Views” on YouTube are the metric they will use to sell their inventory to advertisers next year.
Also during the Business Summit, The Podcast Study 2026 from Point-to-Point Marketing and Strategic Solutions Research was presented. One of the main findings was the importance of the relationship between the podcast host and the audience. 82% of respondents said hosts are mostly or the only reason why they listen to their favorite podcast.
And finally Tom Webster from Sounds Profitable presented findings from the Podcast Landscape 2026, which found that the Top 3 places Americans consume podcasts are YouTube, Spotify and Netflix! Webster also called on podcasting's big names to promote the medium that has given them so much and urged those present to “sing the song” of podcasting as an industry.
Among the reactions to this new version of Podcast Movement, the criticism went to the event’s venue, the low lights that made networking difficult, the number of presentations and the lack of a specific place to keep conversations going once the space closed. The positive comments went to the headphones that let you listen to each session, the intimate space, the number of presentations and the good vibes of being around industry people.
Mayra and I had recorded a recap on Saturday from the airport for the latest episode of Qué Está Pasando en el Podcasting but the audio came out bad so expect our reactions in the next episode.
🇲🇽 The Spotify Partner Program comes to almost all of Latin America and the Caribbean
Spotify announced this week that the SPP will be available to creators across almost all of LATAM and the Caribbean. This expansion includes Mexico, Colombia, Chile, Peru, Ecuador, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Uruguay, El Salvador, Dominican Republic, Paraguay, Honduras, Panama, Bolivia, Nicaragua, San Marino, Andorra, Malta, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Curaçao, Bahamas, Barbados, Guyana, Belize, Suriname, Saint Lucia, Antigua and Barbuda, Haiti, Grenada, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Saint Kitts and Nevis, and Dominica plus Spain, Italy, Brazil and Poland.
Why it matters: this opens the door for thousands of Latin American, Caribbean and even European creators to monetize their content on one of the most used apps for listening around the world.
▶️ What's new from YouTube for creators
YouTube announced a ton of new features during the annual Made on YouTube event this week. Most are aimed at consumption on YouTube and the platform's growth but there are a few that are worth knowing for those who publish their podcast on YouTube:
A/B tests for videos: you'll be able to upload three versions of the same video with different intros or hooks. Right now creators can A/B test titles and thumbnails
Dynamic Thumbnails: will let you upload up to three different thumbnails per video and YouTube will adapt them based on viewer preferences
Customized homepage: you'll be able to design your own unique feeds for your home page
🌎 Top LATAM podcasts for the month of August
Triton Digital published its ranking of the podcasts with the most downloads for August. La Corneta from Prisa Radio leads with 810,251 weekly downloads. Prisa Radio is also the leader with almost 30 podcasts on the list of 100.
⚾️ Rimas Sports and My Cultura from iHeartMedia launch Ronald Acuña’s podcast
The Venezuelan star for the Atlanta Braves in MLB debuts his podcast alongside two big production companies. “La Bestia con Ronald Acuña” is a podcast in Spanish where Acuña will explore Latino identity through conversations with friends, family and celebrities touching on topics like family, hard work and pride. The first episode, with his dad as the guest, is available now.
AROUND THE INDUSTRY
Three senior employees at Patreon, including its co-founder, have left the company to join OpenAI and lead the new Creator Products division. Sam Yam, former chief technology officer and co-founder of Patreon will be the one leading this division alongside Drew Rowny, former senior vice president of product and Shannon Ma, former head of engineering. OpenAI will be presenting its products for creators this coming September 29th.
An investigation by Podnews found that Apple and Google are making money from an app that skips ads in podcasts. For just $9.99 a month, Podtastic automatically skips any ad in your podcast, hurting creators who depend on advertising but making these two companies even richer thanks to the 30% fee for the app. Oh, and all of it legal. How nice…

🤳🏼 Video inspiration to promote your audio episode
I found this clip of Ira Glass promoting a recent episode of This American Life and it struck me as a great example of how to use video to promote an audio-first podcast. The clip helps you understand the context of the comments they found on NPR's podcasts and it's Ira Glass himself who explains it and then works in the audio cleanly.
💰How to turn your podcast into a company
Our compipodcasters at Audiogen3×3 shared an article about how podcasting is turning into a creator economy where the audience is the most valuable asset, according to the IAB during its Upfront at Podcast Week. They argue that podcasters should become creators and use the podcast as an entry point to build companies. They say that by having an audience that listens, recognizes and trusts you, you have more than a podcast. To turn your podcast into a company they suggest that you:
Define the problem or need you solve and for whom: they say the biggest mistake is when you believe what you like doing is what your audience wants
Anonymous audience to your own audience: it's necessary not just to add followers but to know who they are and what they'd be willing to do for you
Define your revenue model: advertising, products, memberships. It's good to pick two or three and focus on them.
Protect what you're building: if your project starts to grow, you need advice to protect yourself, your income and your brand
Important: Obviously this is not for everyone and there are people who are completely happy with their podcast being just that. We'll discuss this in depth in the next episode of Qué Está Pasando en el Podcasting.
📼 New tool to record remotely
Suretake.io is an AI-free tool to record podcasts remotely in your browser. Its website claims the tool is built to do just one thing and do it well. It records high quality audio and video locally, it has no AI or editing tools, you just record, get the files and that's it. All for $24 a month and it has a free option. Arielle Nissenblatt has an event on October 20th with the tool's founder where they'll do a breakdown and talk about best practices for remote recordings. It's free.
