👎🏽Spotify launches memberships but Latin America is left out

Spotify launched Memberships this week, a new version of its membership service for creators (in the United States, Spain or the other 32 selected markets) who use Megaphone or Spotify for Creators as their hosting platform. Creators will be able to offer exclusive episodes in audio or video, early access, extra content and more. All you need is:

  • Three episodes published, 100 listeners and 100 hours of consumption on Spotify in the last 30 days

Spotify says you keep 90% of the earnings, but doesn't say whether that's before or after taxes, fees and so on.

Why it matters: Obviously, it’s great Spotify has this option for some creators, but it’s not the best course of action when thinking of memberships. Doing it inside Spotify means that you wouldn’t be able to automatically take those members with you if you ever decide to move off the app. Before making the decision, you have to ask yourself whether it's worth moving your whole operation to a single app you don't fully control.

🤝Audiences trust their favorite host more than their friends

That's what a study by SmithGeiger for Wondery, an Amazon company, found. They surveyed 3,000 adults aged 18 to 64 in the United States who follow podcasts:

  • 85% see their favorite creator as a friend and, of that group, 81% trust that creator as much as or more than their close friends

  • 78% would buy something the host recommended with more confidence

  • 71% say seeing brands across several episodes shows real support, while half say that if it's only mentioned once, the creator didn't like it

Why it matters: A single mention can take credibility away from the brand, and from you along with it. Offer multi-episode packages. Remember that the audience trusts the ads we read.

👏🏽 The BBC hires Ozen.fm to sell its ads in Latin America

BBC Studios named Ozen.fm, from our compi-podcaster Rodrigo Tigre, its exclusive podcast advertising representative in Mexico, Colombia, Chile, Argentina and Brazil. Ozen.fm will handle planning, contracts, ad insertion and reporting. The BBC has more than 500 active and archived podcasts.

Why it matters: That a global brand sees the need to hire a local sales representative is a good sign for podcast advertising in Latin America.

🇨🇴 Colombian production company receives investment for independent media

La No Ficción, a Colombian podcast production company with more than 20 podcasts, received investment from the Media Development Investment Fund, a fund that finances independent media, to expand into Spain and bring projects to film and television. There were no details on how much the investment was. In conversation with Forbes Colombia, its co-founder Miguel Reyes mentioned that La No Ficción's main income is producing content for third parties, especially brands, even though one of its original podcasts reaches 50,000 downloads per episode.

AROUND THE INDUSTRY

  • MIDiA Research estimates that podcast platforms collectively added up to almost a billion monthly users at the end of 2025. YouTube has 32% of the global market and more than half in Latin America. Ximalaya FM, a Chinese platform, is second, Spotify is third and Apple Podcasts fourth

  • The Signal Awards announced the 1,221 winners of the 2026 edition. MyCultura from iHeartRadio took home several awards, as did our compi-podcasters Nuria Net and Nina Rodriguez. Congratulations!

  • Sonora is Uruguay's podcast festival and celebrates its fourth edition on Saturday, November 14 in Montevideo. The Sonora Aural award for the best Uruguayan podcast of the year is presented there.

TIPS, TRICKS AND STRATEGIES

📝 What a transcript that actually works should have

On his podcast Al Otro Lado del Micrófono, Jorge Marín Nieto explains what separates a block of text from a useful transcript. Jorge uses each episode's transcript to generate titles, descriptions and posts and keeps them as an archive:

  • Data at the beginning: such as date, length, location and who's participating

  • Timestamps every minute, or more often if you need precision

  • Tags for laughter, applause, silences or parts that can't be understood

Why it matters: Last week we shared RSS.com's free transcription tool. With these recommendations from Jorge you have a complete process. A good transcript helps you show up on Google, find a quote and more.

👀Share your YouTube engaged views with sponsors

Bumper launched a free tool to show your sponsors or agencies your engaged views on YouTube. After the change a few months ago, the number of views on channels has been inflated. This tool gives you transparency with people who want to sponsor you and want to see your YouTube numbers. Just connect your account to the Bumper dashboard and you decide who can see those numbers.

Remember: Public views no longer matter. Engaged views are the number you want to consider when we talk about YouTube.

✂ 10 editor alternatives

Lilach Bullock compared 10 audio and video editors depending on how you prefer to work: text-based editing, automatic cleanup or classic editing. Her recommendation is to test with one episode before moving everything and check how well it transcribes your accent.
